
Dr Lerong Lu is a legal scholar, writer, and expert consultant specializing in international financial law, financial regulation, FinTech, corporate finance, and Chinese law. He is Reader in Law and Director of Postgraduate Studies at The Dickson Poon School of Law, King’s College London, and Founding Director of the King’s Law & Technology LLM program. His work focuses on the regulation of banks, capital markets, and financial technologies in the UK, the US, China, and other Asian jurisdictions.
Dr Lu’s is the author of three books: Private Lending in China (Routledge, 2019), Global FinTech Revolution (Oxford University Press, 2024), and Towards Financial Superpower (Oxford University Press, 2025). He has published extensively in academic journals, edited volumes, and leading academic platforms, and his research has been supported by the British Academy and the Leverhulme Trust.
Dr Lu’s commentary has been featured by BBC One, Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, and The Straits Times. He regularly advises governments, bar associations, central banks, financial regulators, lawmakers, and corporate and individual clients across Asia, Europe, and the US on cross-border business, financial, and regulatory matters, with particular expertise in international financial law, anti-money laundering, currency regulation, FinTech regulation, corporate finance law reform, and Chinese law. He also advises the Law Society of England and Wales and the American Bar Association on LawTech and FinTech training for legal professionals.
Dr Lu is also an Associate Editor of the Journal of Law, Ethics & Technology, an External Examiner for PhD and postgraduate taught programmes at Russell Group universities and elite law schools in Asia, and a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Before joining King’s, he taught law at the Universities of Bristol and Leeds. He holds a PhD and an LLM with Distinction from the University of Leeds, together with dual bachelor’s degrees in Law and Economics from the East China University of Political Science and Law.
