Dr Lerong Lu is an Associate Professor of Law at the King’s College London, specialising in International Financial Law and FinTech Regulation.

Dr Lu is the author of three books: Private Lending in China (Routledge, 2019), Global FinTech Revolution (Oxford University Press, 2024), and Towards Financial Superpower (Oxford University Press, 2025). He has published over 50 articles in edited volumes and academic journals. His research has been supported by leading funding bodies, including the British Academy and the Leverhulme Trust. Dr Lu also serves as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Law, Ethics & Technology, and acts as an External Examiner for PhD and LLM programmes at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (IALS) and other Russell Group universities.

Dr Lu is a recognised public voice on global financial regulation and FinTech policy. His expert commentary has appeared in major international media outlets, including the BBC, Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, and The Straits Times. He regularly advises governments, central banks, financial regulators, and international organisations across Asia and Europe on legal reform and innovation policy. He also provides expert advice to the Law Society of England and Wales and the American Bar Association on LawTech and FinTech training for legal professionals.

Before joining King’s, Dr Lu taught law at the Universities of Bristol and Leeds. He studied law and financial economics in China and the UK, holding a PhD and an LLM (with Distinction) from the University of Leeds as well as dual bachelor degrees in Law and Economics from the ECUPL. He is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
