Dr Lerong Lu is a legal scholar, writer, and expert consultant specializing in international financial law, FinTech, and Chinese law. He serves as Reader in Law and Director of Postgraduate Studies at The Dickson Poon School of Law, King’s College London.
Dr Lu is the author of three books: Private Lending in China (Routledge, 2019), Global FinTech Revolution (Oxford University Press, 2024), and Towards Financial Superpower (Oxford University Press, 2025). He has also published over 70 articles in academic journals, edited collections, and leading online platforms associated with Oxford, Cambridge, Columbia, Duke, Tsinghua, and Hong Kong universities. He is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
Dr Lu’s expert commentary has appeared in major media outlets, including the BBC, Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, and The Straits Times. He regularly advises governments, bar associations, central banks, financial regulators, and corporate and individual clients across Asia, Europe, and the United States on cross-border business, financial, and regulatory matters, with particular expertise in international financial law, anti-money laundering, currency regulation, FinTech regulation, and Chinese law.
On 10 April 2024, Dr Lerong Lu appeared on BBC One to discuss the legal implications of deepfake technology. He examined how deepfakes shape public perceptions of politicians and celebrities, offering viewers advice on identifying deepfake scams. The interview was broadcast nationwide across the UK.
